As part of their speaker series, the Friends of Gatineau Park are happy to be offering an interesting presentation on archaeological resources in the National Capital Region (NCR) by archeologist Ian Badgley from the NCC on Friday, February 21, 2014.
The National Capital Commission (NCC) is responsible for the management of archaeological resources on its own lands and, through the federal land use approval process, makes recommendations for the protection of these resources on other federal lands in the NCR. The framework within which these responsibilities are undertaken is described and illustrated by examples of investigations conducted in historical and pre-contact archaeological sites. An overview of past Aboriginal occupation of the Ottawa valley based on local and regional archaeological resources is presented.
